One Killed, One Wounded in Compton Shooting

One man was shot dead and another man was wounded Sunday in Compton, officials said.

The shooting took place just before 9:25 a.m. near the intersection of Alondra Boulevard and Poinsettia Avenue, according to Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies responded to the scene in response to a call about a gunshot victim. One man was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s age was not immediately available, and his name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The other victim had been shot in the chest and was taken to an area hospital, where his condition was unknown, but he was expected to survive, Navarro-Suarez reported.

The suspects were described as two black males in their 20s who fled the scene in a light-colored sedan and went east on Alondra Boulevard.

A motive for the shooting was unknown, but authorities said it might have been gang-related.

Sheriff’s homicide detectives asked anyone with information regarding the shooting to call the homicide bureau at 323-890-5500. Tipsters can also call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
